So beautifully and powerfully written! I’ve been thinking so much about how our city has endured so much this year and how fucked up that is and also how divine it is that we keep coming together and showing up for each other. 😭💕🙏And YES we need the joy the art the weirdness in the midst of all of this. Your words are so powerful and NEEDED and it’s such a gift to see photos from the open studio! So sad to miss it but looking forward to future connections and collaborations!
ugh I know SUCH a tough year... "the joy the art the weirdness!!!!" love you so much. I know I already wrote this to you in my earlier email but your energy radiates in everything you do from your work, to your newsletter, to your Substack comments and it fills my cup. <3 <3 <3
Mieke! Art promotes joy, resolve and most importantly hope. The “voice does the Buddha’s work !” And that voice includes not just (or even mainly) the written and spoken word but the voice in all forms of art. Trite perhaps but still true that in many ways a “picture is worth a thousand words.”
You are gifted ( and so are we!) by your marvelous ability to speak to us in different voices. Hope is an attitude, an expression of a powerful spiritual strategy that does not capitulate to threat or fear. Continue to be hopeful; polish your hope as a spiritual strategy and then continue to share (and teach) that strategy in your beloved Los Angeles and wherever your art presents.
