Apologies for those on my email list for whom this is redundant, but I am hosting an Open Studio Party where I’ll be previewing new paintings and videos at my Silverlake home next Saturday June 7, 5-8PM.
There will be pizza, refreshments, and a kid zone! Use this Partiful Link to RSVP.
There will also be an interactive AR Experience by artist and futurist Sutu and a Group Salon with works by 30+ artist friends. See Partiful for full list of names.
I’m excited to present this new body of work, which I’ve been calling “Live Laugh Lube,” for the first time. “Live Laugh Lube” began as an experiment inspired by the following questions. Could I make generative art without a computer—using paint and comedians as my code? Could I make art that changed my relationship to social media? Make it more fun, less self-loathing drudgery? The project has taken a life of its own, some of which I’ve documented on this very Substack.
It’s no coincidence that I started “Live Laugh Lube” and “God in the Feed” at the same time. Both were the result of significant unblocking I experienced, caused by a constellation of forces. Though I have to give props to
for encouraging both “Live Laugh Lube” and this Substack during the months I worked with her.A couple Substack updates: after my favorite Substacker Roxane Gay, each post by me will start with a brief updates section (recent/upcoming shows, articles, press, announcements, etc…). Also inspired by Gay, I will be regularly sharing (or cross-posting in Substack parlance) writing by fellow Substackers whose words I admire. So be on the look-out for both.
Lastly, if you would like to join my email list it’s not too late! Subscribe here.
And hope to see you next Saturday!
So looking forward to this! 💖💖💖
congrats and can't wait! <3
